“. . . we will be wanting the voices of writers who can see alternatives to how we live now and can see through our fear-stricken society and its obsessive technologies to other ways of being, and even imagine some real grounds for hope. We will need writers who can remember freedom. Poets, visionaries—the realists of a larger reality.”

Interstellar Flight Press was created in answer to a question: What if authors could publish what they feel passionate about, not what the market dictates? In answer to this question, we seek to publish books that are considered weird, strange, or just don't fit the mold of commerical publishing.
The perks of being an IFP author:
The perks of being an IFP author:
- We want to publish that thing you never thought you'd sell! We're interested in furthering the art of the book.
- We work with authors to create a customized marketing plan. Part of why we ask authors to list a marketing plan with their submissions is that we want to know what matters to you, the creator. We're interested in working with authors who want to collaborate and create the best possible product for their readers. We also know the value of authors understanding their goals and creating plans for the future. Each book we publish has a unique audience and therefore requires a specialized marketing plan.
- We work with authors to craft goals for each project. While we ultimately make final decisions, we always consider author input on cover art, marketing, sales verbiage, and other decisions which authors normally have no control over.
- We never charge fees to authors. There are no fees to submit your work and no required costs for authors.
- We only take what rights are necessary to publish your book. We don't acquire unnecessary rights—we leave those to agents! You own your work.
- Our royalties and advances are competitive for a small press. See the "Royalties" section below for more information.
Royalties, Advances, and Payment
We have two payment schedules, depending on the project:
Schedule 1:
Schedule 2:
We make offers based on a variety of factors including author's previous publications and writing experience, negotiations with agents, marketing plan and viability of project, and market analysis. Authors are paid every six months. Authors are never responsible for marketing costs, except for those they elect to do themselves (outside of the agreed marketing plan.) For more information on payment, please refer to the sample contract.
Schedule 1:
- $250+ advance. (This amount may vary.)
- 70% publisher/30% author net royalties on paperbacks, eBooks, and audio books. This means we pay you an advance at contract signing, then 30% of all net proceeds (what we receive from distributors, booksellers, and Amazon).
Schedule 2:
- No advance
- 50% publisher / 50% author net royalties on paperbacks, eBooks, and audio books. This means we pay you 50% of all net proceeds (what we receive from distributors, booksellers, and Amazon).
